Modernization

Modernization of older elevators is necessary with a view to modernizing them and bringing them in conformity with the standards applicable under European and Greek legislation, so as to ensure a proper level of safety and comfort for users.

The Modernization Department of STAGER will readily provide you with information on all requirements laid down in applicable legislation, and recommend the best and most cost-effective solution for upgrading it, with a view to ensuring the safety and perfect functionality of your elevator.

 

Renovation includes the following:

  • ΑReplacement of older individual elevator components either due to wear and tear resulting from use or because they are no longer compliant with the new specifications laid down in applicable legislation.
  • Enhancing the level of safety and comfort of elevator users.
  • Improving the aesthetic appearance of older cars, as they deteriorate over time.
  • Ensuring optimum functionality of an elevator.
  • Ensuring energy savings (e.g. by replacing the driving mechanism, installing a suitable idle power compensation device, replacing the VVVFinverter, etc.).
  • Certifying an older elevator and issuing its operating license.

STEP 1:

Before commencement of any modernization works on an elevator, an engineer will carry out an initial assessment of the upgrading operation, taking into account the condition of the elevator and all corrective actions to be taken under applicable legislation. Then he will recommend the best and most cost-effective solution according to your needs.

STEP 2:

The renovation operation will be carried out by skilled and fully trained personnel, who will perform the relevant work within the deadlines set, so as to deliver a safe and functional elevator as soon as possible. They will also remove older elevator materials, thus keeping your premises clean.

STEP 3:

In case that you need to certify your elevator, STAGER will be on charge of the lift inspection through an authorized certification body and the submission of its technical dossier at the technical department of the Municipality concerned.

i) New elevator safety systems which are activated automatically in the event of an acceleration level higher than specified or in the event of the car dropping (e.g. clamping system, rupture valve, car-counterweight buffers, etc.), with a view to preventing passenger injury.

ii) Installing safety lights in the car, to be activated in the event of power failure.

iii) Emergency calling equipment for two-way communication with rescue services.

iv) Installing an inner car door to protect passengers from coming into contact with shaft walls and thus preventing any risk of injury.

v) Automation panel with an additional central power relay to cut off power supply in the event of accident, in case of failure of the respective power relay. The elevator automation panel should also be fitted with a phase monitor, an electronic floor selector, a relay, etc. (all relays should be closed type and certified). On an optional basis, the automation panel can be fitted with a VVVFinverter, with a view to ensuring better quality of motion, smooth and accurate starts and stops, energy saving and reduced elevator motor mechanical friction.

vi) Shaft door locks which can be secured; mechanical verification of the "closed" position, in addition to the electrical verification. This is aimed at eliminating the risk of a passenger falling off and getting injured.

vii) Car re-leveling system for hydraulic elevators, in relation to floor levels, to prevent passengers from stumbling when getting in and out of the car and ensure easier access of wheelchairs.

viii) Measures to ensure increased protection of technicians, such as a pit controller, a double pressure controller with a mushroom-type emergency stop at the top of the shaft, counterweight sheet iron and a device ensuring protection from counterweights on the car top.

ix) An automatic rescue system. In the event of power failure while the car is between two stops, the automatic rescue system will be activated to move the car to the nearest stop.
